A type of German Bärenfang (literally ‘bear trap’) honey liqueur, Bärenjäger (‘bear hunter’) is a delicious vodka-based liqueur that can be enjoyed straight over ice, added to tea or a hot toddy, or even poured straight on vanilla ice cream.
First brewed in Eastern Prussia during the 15th century, Bärenjäger became the first commercial brand of Barenfang. Produced using Mexican nectar honey from the Yucatan province by Teucke & Koenig Bear Trap Company (today known simply as Teucke & Koenig), the Bärenjäger bottle features an image of a fur trapper trapping a bear and a beehive-shaped cap.
